JOb Purpose

The incumbent works under the guidance of the Project Manager and in close collaboration with the ECD, CE, and MH Leads. The role is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating a culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate programme for children at an integrated playhouse site offering Early Childhood Development (ECD), Mental Health (MH), and related services. The individual is accountable for the overall day-to-day operations of the centre, ensuring that programme policies and procedures are implemented effectively and that all licensing, regulatory, and compliance requirements are consistently met and maintained.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work effectively in a culturally diverse environment, demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills in English and isiZulu or another local language spoken in the community.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with project management, teaching teams, and support staff.
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide playhouse staff, and conduct performance evaluations in line with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Ensure high-quality classroom standards through regular programme assessment and monitoring of children’s developmental progress.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings, case reviews, and consultation sessions, including preparation of written agendas and accurate meeting minutes.
  • Ensure that learning spaces, meeting rooms, and counselling areas meet established project and regulatory standards.
  • Provide effective team leadership by promoting reflective practice, critical thinking, and compliance with all ECD centre, construction, and legislative requirements.
  • Address non-compliance by offering guidance, corrective actions, and constructive feedback in line with policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate field trips and special outings in consultation with the line manager and parents or caregivers.
  • Ensure that all required documentation and reports are completed and submitted on time, including maintaining accurate and up-to-date child records in both hard copy and electronic formats, including files for children receiving mental health services.
  • Establish and maintain clear daily communication systems with staff and parents to ensure consistency and transparency in playhouse practices.
  • Ensure compliance with food service and nutrition guidelines in line with established policies and nutritional standards.
  • Manage centre inventory, including teaching materials and supplies, ensuring timely replenishment.
  • Monitor the centre environment and take proactive steps to ensure cleanliness, safety, and a welcoming atmosphere for children, families, and visitors.
  • Act as a liaison between programme leads and on-site staff to support effective communication and smooth programme implementation.
  • Track and ensure accurate recording of vehicle logs, nutrition logs, and other equipment usage.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned by the line manager.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA)

Required Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 3–4 years’ work experience in a supervisory role; experience within an Early Childhood Development (ECD) environment will be an added advantage.
  • Possession of a valid, unendorsed driver’s license with at least two years of practical driving experience.
