JOb Purpose

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Project Manager and in collaboration with the Early Childhood Development (ECD), Community Engagement (CE), and Mental Health Leads to design, implement, evaluate, and enforce a culturally and developmentally age appropriate program for all children at an integrated playhouse site offering ECD, MH, and other services. S/he is also responsible for the overall day-to-day operation of the centre, implementing program policies and procedures, and ensuring that all regulations and requirements for licensing are met and maintained.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates abilities to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment with excellent verbal and written skills in English and IsiZulu or a local language spoken within the community.
  • Maintains a strong working relationship with the project’s management, teaching teams and staff.
  • Provides supervision and guidance to staff at playhouse, and would conduct performance evaluation for all staff according to policies and procedures.
  • Ensures high-quality classroom standards including program assessment and monitoring of a children’s progress.
  • Conducts regular team meetings, case reviews, and consultation meetings which include written agendas and meeting minutes.
  • Ensures playhouse learning, meeting, and counselling areas to meet the standards of the project.
  • Perform as a team leader and develop team-thinking skills that include reflective thinking and critical evaluation to ensure compliance with all required ECD centre requirements, as well as construction and legislative requirements of the site.
  • Intervene with suggestions and corrective measures when co-workers are displaying practices that are not adhering to policies and procedures
  • Assists in the monitoring of all licensing requirements and recommends a plan of actions to ensure requirements are met; consults with Leads to seek input prior to implementing recommended plans of action.
  • Coordinates field trips and special outings in consultation with the Project Manager and parents whose children attend the playhouse site.
  • Required to perform the responsibilities of a Head Teacher in the classroom when ECD Practitioners are not available, i.e. in instances of taking leave.
  • Ensures required paperwork and reports are submitted in a timely manner; reviews children’s files to make sure all required documents are updated and files both in soft copy and electronic files, as well as for those availing MH services.
  • Develops, maintains, and reviews a daily system of communication to staff and parents to ensure clarity and consistency around playhouse practices.
  • Practices and ensures that food service guidelines, including nutritional components of meals served, meet the established written policy and procedures and are in line with the nutritional guideline policies.
  • Maintain centre inventory of supplies and teaching materials and ensures that all inventory items are replenished timeously.
  • Monitors the centres environment and proactively takes actions to ensure the centre is clean, presentable to clients, and meets required centre requirements
  • Serves as a liaison between Leads and on-ground staff, and facilitating functional reporting for ease of programmatic delivery.
  • Tracking and ensuring recording of field vehicle logs, nutrition logs, and other equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the line manager.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA)

Required Qualification

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration or related field.

Required Experience

  • 3 to 4 years work experience in a supervisory role.
  • Driver’s license preferred.
