Implementation Partner: Early Learning Component of the Kuyakhanya Programme in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN)

IRD Global invites proposals from qualified organisations with demonstrated experience in Early Childhood Development (ECD) delivery to partner with us in expanding the Kuyakhanya Programme across four rural districts of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

About the Kuyakhanya Program

Kuyakhanya (meaning “there is light” in isiZulu) is a holistic model that combines early learning, caregiver mental health, nutrition, and community engagement to build ecosystems of play for children aged birth to five years. Following a successful pilot in Ugu District, IRD Global is expanding the model to four additional districts in KZN through central Playhouses and Community Play Facilitation (CPF) sites.

Who should apply

We welcome applications from:

• Registered NGOs, NPOs, NPCs, or RTOs in South Africa
• Organisations with an existing footprint in KwaZulu-Natal
• Groups experienced in ECD service delivery, workforce training, community outreach, and centre-based management
• Consortium applications are welcome, provided a lead organisation is identified as contractually responsible for delivery

Scope of Work

The selected partner will:

• Manage renovation and set-up of Playhouses in-line with IRD’s design standards (see Annexure 1).
• Identify, onboard, and manage an ECD workforce for Playhouses and CPF sites.
• Deliver play-based early learning services aligned with Kuyakhanya tools and resources.
• Oversee distribution of nutrition packs, HomeKits, and training resources.
• Coordinate with IRD and partners on integration of nutrition, mental health, and caregiver support.
