Tuberculosis

IRD’s Tuberculosis (TB) Program strengthens detection, treatment, and prevention systems to reduce the burden of TB in high-risk and underserved populations. Despite being preventable and curable, TB remains a leading cause of infectious disease mortality, with significant gaps in case detection—particularly among children, household contacts, and populations accessing care through the private sector.

Through active case finding, community-based screening, private sector engagement, and digital innovations, IRD supports governments to identify missing cases and improve treatment outcomes. The program also expands access to TB preventive treatment (TPT) and strengthens diagnostic capacity, while contributing to research and vaccine preparedness efforts. By integrating service delivery with system strengthening and evidence generation, IRD helps close detection gaps and accelerate progress toward TB control.
